Tech Support for PS2...
My PS2, being the peice of crap it is, has trouble reading PSone games which it should do. I've taken the thing apart to adjust the gear, but that did not help at all. Does anyone have any suggestions? It also does not work with purple discs, but since I don't have any of those, I have'nt had the need to adjust it accordingly.

My buddy has had a PS2 for a few years. It konked out on him some time ago, and Sony quoted him over $130 for a new DVD reader for it.
So he shelved it, it sat in his closet for a few months. Then one day I asked him about it, and I said "Well, why don't you give it to me for a while, I'll see if I can fix it.".
So I took it to the shop, disassembled, cleaned, reassembled. It's been working fine ever since, and that was over a year ago. ALL DVD and/or CD readers/writers need to be cleaned periodically, no matter what the machine is, IMHO.
I'm gonna be buying a PS2 myself in a few weeks, a Xmas present for my g/f and her kid. Was just gonna get them a DVD player... but for an extra hundred bucks, what the hell....
Personally, I hate Sony. I've been saying that since I was a kid, when I realized that all their products are "made to break". Sure, they got the coolest features first, they invent most of the new stuff, but their stuff is made to break a week after warranty. Just ask any Sony owners, especially PS2 owners.
But, I hate Microsoft more... so no Xbox here.

My sister has a Sony reciever and CD player and they've been going strong for over 6 years, not even 1 problem with either one of them. Either she got the 7 year warranty or Sony forgot to install the "self breaking software" in those 2 pieces of equipment.Personally, I hate Sony. Uh...
I've got to go with RD here, too, kids...
I have a set of Sony home speakers I got when I was 17 (don't ask how many years that was ago) and a head unit in my van and neither have given me any problems...
Maybe Sony just makes "disposable" produces for kids who's parents have too much money?

Ah, the exception to every rule.
Sure... you drive an old beater Ford van that's still pretty damn reliable don't you?
But, would you be dumb enough to buy a late model Ford van? Or how about that '02 Ford Focus I was working on the other day? No, I think not.
Just like Sony. Sure, SOME of their stuff proves to be reliable. I hear of broken Sony's, and dissatisfied Sony owner's, far more often than happy Sony owners.
Just like Ford.
And every Sony product I myself have owned, has broke down way to fast.
Nope, won't be seeing this boy buying any Sony audio products.

I've taken the thing apart and cleaned it out, I did that then when I was trying to adjust the gear.
How much do you charge for fixing one GrizZz? heh.
The damn thing plays everything else, but the PSOne games, and those should fucken work, there is no ryme or reason. I've heard of a lot o problems with DVDs and the purple games, but not PSone. I can't run the purple games either.
I do not like Sony either, but the PS2 had a few titles that I wanted, like Gran Turismo and FF10(let down). But now everything is going multi-platform anyway.

I have a PSOne, the point is that the PS2 is supposed to play PSOne games, if its not, then it is broken...it is a piece of crap. Purple discs where first run PS2 games, that shipped out to stores at the same time the first run of PS2s hit the market. And, of course, Sony decided that they needed to make a second run of PS2s, then a third mind you...so...now...the newer PS2s will not work with the oldest (purple) PS2 games.

Well, if that 'aint a fucked up scenario then I don't know what is! Stay with Nintendo. It plays the Game Boy games you know. I heard they're going the way of Sega tho', so sad.Redline Fox wrote:I have a PSOne, the point is that the PS2 is supposed to play PSOne games, if its not, then it is broken...it is a piece of crap. Nintendo is here to stay, they have'nt been going strong this long by chance. They've got a good managment team and always seem to keep their core customers happy. If anyone is going to pull a Sega it's Sony, the way in which they are putting out a poor product before anyone else just to be first is exactly what got Sega into trouble with the Saturn (Remember that one? heh) and then the Dreamcast. And like Sega, Sony is lossing a lot of it's exclusives to other more well sorted consoles. Sony's big advantage now will be it's free online play, but if that goes pay, my PS2 would be in the trash if it was'nt for Gran Turismo and Square, if they can put out a better idea then FFX-2. So Final Fantasy 10 2...yeah good fucking title there. Some of us do know what Roman numerls are Square thanks.
I remember Sega Genesis, and Dreamcast. Forgot all about Saturn. I think Sega needs to think of some better people to represent their system and games rather than Sonic and Tails, and also think of something new to consoles and not redoing things that Nintendo accomplished.
btw. I heard FFX-2 is going to suck big time.

Don't blame me....Blame yourself or God.

Genesis was the first console I paid for with my own money and I don't regret doing it either. They put out alot of good games and still are but I always had just as much fun playing on my buddies Nintendo also. I still play the old Genesis games on my emulator and I'm going to download an emulator so I can fire up Super Mario again.
