I've fired up an unmonitored game ([FD] Testing on BATTLEZONE1.COM) to make sure everyone can join *BEFORE* the event.

It will be great to have another player!

Aaargh, I still can't join! I reinstalled using the latest installer from Edouard, and yet somehow the game refuses to connect correctly.

Well, the hubby decided he *had* to use our desktop computer at exactly 7pm pst, even though there is a perfectly good laptop that he can do the exact same things on.

I feel a divorce is imminent...

I've got this old rig sitting around (essentially a Made For Windows XP machine) that SHOULD be able to handle a fair number of games, including I'76. I'll see if I can get Win98 or WinXP running on it sometime soon!

Currently attempting to get this old machine that I've loaded up with Win98 to actually do what I want it to do; easier said than done when it keeps crashing.

EDIT: Nope, Win98 is far too unstable. WinXP time!

It looks like WinXP will work with I'76 multiplayer! Anyone wanna help me test it?

I'll host up a "[FD] Tests" game at about 6:00pm Pacific (about 7 hour from now, an hour before the main event) so you can test.

The game will be unmonitored, though, so just make sure you can drive around and take damage without getting booted.

@Lightfoot: Sorry I didn't get back to you, I was busy until the wee hours of yesterday morning trying to get my damn router to work. The router itself has four ports, but the entire thing panics if you use more than TWO of those ports, so I lost a few hours of internet and TV service when I tried plugging my computer into the router more directly for testing purposes. This gets more problematic when you realize that we've got easily seven or eight computers in our house, plus a PS3, plus some DVRs, and so the standing solution (which was put into place a few months ago, when I stopped being able to play I'76 online) was to swap out our multitude of network switches with one big one. I'm seriously considering looking at the security setup of the big one right about now...

I know what having a big network is all about, not like there aren't 4 workstations in this room alone.

The one thing I'd look for based on the troubles you're having is a second device providing NAT/IP addresses and your firewall. A router plugged into a router, an AP that thinks it should be dishing DHCP, a hotspot that's just chatting away...something along those lines.


Anyway, once you get that sorted (or roll back to your original configuration) the ability to join a game but then crash as soon as your car takes damage is due to an incoming port to your PC being blocked or used by another application.

If the game can't update the damage information from the game to your machine, you'll drop.

Was really busy yesterday; upon further inspection, it looks like my issue is more complicated than previously thought, but I'll post back when I get a possible solution. I'm not out of tricks yet.
